Dear Sir or Madam:
Hi there, I'm Ewald E. Kaus and would like to fill in the years my wife Mary
and I lived in Atikokan. Hope it will be of some value.
I took a job with C.N. Railways in April 1952 as a machinist helper but stayed
only 6 months. Then drove truck for Stan Scales who had contract to haul underground
waste from B-1 shaft at Steep Rock Iron Mines for about 1 years. I was also a
part time taxi driver for Stans Taxi and Service Taxi, then accepted a position
with Steep Rock.
After being layed off from C.A.C Steep Rock on January 15,1954 I was out of work
untill April 1954 at which time I started on deck H and on the Moose Lake draining
project with Construction Aggregates Corp. on the dredge (Randall).I stayed till
the job was completed as engine room dialer for 6 years.
I worked 2 years for Gustafson & Mattson at Dove Tail Lake cutting pulp and
truck driving on the lake. Then started for Caland Ore Company in April 1963
until March 1969.
We moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in March 1969 and worked for Allan Potash
Mines for 4 years. Then on to Formex Mining Company which later changed to Highland
Valley Copper and worked there for 17 years as Millwright, returning on May
31, 1990 to Logan Lake, B.C.
We do miss the great fishing at the flood waters. I still think walley are the
best eating fish. We also miss all our old friends and the wild berry picking
and the good hunting which I did with our young sons.
Most of all we miss the many years of playing softball. I played for many different
teams. One year we became champs-don't remember the year. We were called the
Rockton Rockets.
My wife mary played 4 years on Dodge Darts Team. They became 3 year champs- 1960,61,61.
Mary played left field and was the great home run queen.
Mary and I are now members of Logan Lakes slow pitch team, which we helped organize
this year for people 50 years and up.
We play other senior teams in our ares and still enjoy it very much.
We don't have any plans for coming to Atikokan until 1993, see you then.
